Projects

Client: Livelihoods
Project: Veracruz Mangroves for Life
Country: México
Standard: VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)
Saltus’ Role: Certification Support
ID: 5175
Description: Veracruz Mangroves for Life breathes new life into the Alvarado Lagoon System, restoring 2,037 ha of mangroves and floodplain forests degraded over 20 years. This inspiring community-led initiative by Livelihoods and Pronatura Veracruz empowers 400 families directly and supports 7,000 locals who rely on this vital ecosystem. By planting native mangroves and flood species, rehabilitating waterways, and protecting plantations, it enhances biodiversity, resilience to climate change, and captures 1.2M tons of CO₂ over 20 years. More than a project, it’s a model for sustainable development — reconnecting people with nature, restoring wetlands, and unlocking the voluntary carbon market for better livelihoods.
Saltus supports the carbon certification of this project under the VCS standard.

Client: Livelihoods
Project: Sustainable coffee landscapes in indigenous rural communities of Oaxaca
Country: México
Standard: VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)
Saltus’ Role: Certification Support
ID: 4153
Description: This inspiring project empowers 3,250 smallholder coffee farmers — including 1,000 women — across 142 indigenous communities in Oaxaca, Mexico, to rebuild resilient coffee systems after devastating coffee rust. Through CEPCO’s 45 cooperatives, farmers will restore and diversify 6,493 hectares: planting new shade-grown coffee, enriching existing plantations, creating productive forests, and piloting cocoa and fruit intercropping. With a strong gender and youth focus, the project rejuvenates degraded lands while boosting livelihoods. Over 20 years, it is set to remove more than 1 million tons of CO₂, transforming landscapes and lives in harmony with nature.

Client: Livelihoods
Project: Livelihoods’ mangrove restoration grouped project in Senegal
Country: Senegal
Standard: VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)
Saltus’ Role: Certification Support
ID: 1318
Description: The Livelihoods Mangrove Restoration Project in Senegal is one of the first-ever blue carbon projects certified under the VCS standard — a groundbreaking initiative! This grouped project restores degraded Senegalese wetlands through afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation of mangroves, reviving vital ecosystems and boosting carbon removal through lush biomass growth. Beyond its climate impact, it empowers local communities by creating jobs and fostering sustainable mangrove use. Managed by the pioneering Livelihoods Fund — supported by global leaders like Danone, Hermès, and Schneider Electric — the project blends ecological restoration, climate action, and poverty reduction, setting a powerful precedent for blue carbon initiatives worldwide.
Saltus supports the 4th verificaiton of this project under the VCS standard, using innovative monitoring tehcniques, with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drones) and neural network to estimate carbon stocks.

Client: Livelihoods
Project: Towards regenerative agriculture with French farmers in Brittany
Country: France
Standard: VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)
Saltus’ Role: Certification Support
ID: 4096
Description: Towards Regenerative Agriculture with French Farmers in Brittany is transforming 11,000 ha with ~100 farmers to a soil-friendly, climate-positive model. Rooted in 20 years of local innovation, the project scales up conservation agriculture—boosting soil health with permanent cover, diverse rotations, and minimal disturbance. Moving away from conventional practices like bare soils and heavy tillage, it restores carbon-rich soils while cutting emissions. Supported by Livelihoods Venture and local authorities, it aims to save ~370,000 tCO₂e over 20 years by enhancing soil carbon (91%), reducing fuel (5%), and optimizing nitrogen (4%). It inspires a new generation of farmers to regenerate both land and livelihoods.
Saltus support project validation and first verificaition of this project under de VCS standard.

Client: Canopy Energies
Project: Fagnako: Agroforestry project in Madagascar
Country: France
Standard: VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)
Saltus’ Role: Certification Support
ID: 5160
Description: Fagnako’s inspiring initiative in Madagascar transforms 10,563 hectares of degraded land into a vibrant, sustainable landscape. Working hand-in-hand with herders, farmers, and local communities, the project combines silvopastoral systems, agroforestry, fast-growing wood energy plantations, and natural forest regeneration. Centered on Millettia pinnata—a native, nitrogen-fixing tree—the program restores soils, boosts zebu pastures, supports renewable energy, and enhances biodiversity. Beyond ecological gains, it strengthens schools, healthcare, and livelihoods, showcasing how environmental and social progress go hand in hand. This holistic, community-driven model not only revitalizes Madagascar’s landscapes but also offers a beacon of hope for sustainable development across similar regions.

Client: Forest Defense

Beyond planting trees, it creates sustainable jobs, trains locals in forest stewardship, and fosters environmental awareness. By blending climate action with social impact, this pioneering initiative in the Colombian Caribbean showcases how reforestation can restore nature, fight climate change, and improve lives — turning barren lands into green, resilient landscapes for generations to come.

Client: Mirova
Project: Teraka Madagascar: Smallholder Tree Planting Program.
Country: Madagascar
Standard: VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)
Saltus’ Role: Technical due diligence Support
ID: 5107
Description: The TERAKA program empowers Malagasy smallholders to fight deforestation, poverty, and drought by planting and owning trees on their land. Inspired by East Africa’s TIST model, farmers join Small Groups, earn 70% of carbon revenues, and turn carbon credits into a “virtual” cash crop. With training and support, they restore degraded land, boost biodiversity, and create sustainable jobs. Starting with 6,000 hectares in central and eastern Madagascar, TERAKA aims to scale nationwide, sequestering over 2 million tonnes of CO₂ in 40 years — proving that reforestation can transform both livelihoods and landscapes.
